File mime type reader

We need a component which reads the mime given the file. we need a platfrom independent solution, any Ideas ?

Hi,

Can we use something like in Firefox. ? It uses a RDF file.

$HOME/.mozilla/firefox/profile.default/mimeTypes.rdf

Not sure how much this helps but a suggestion. ;)

How about KMimeType::findByURL("/here/the/url/of/my/file.jpg")?

I think you could copy the code if the extra dependency on kde is not required.
