Ihave a Xperia 1 phone and i am very pleased with it. I did not check the firmware version so far but i was hoping for Android 10. Upon checking today, i saw that i have an "old' firmware version 55.0.A.2.205 and the latest should be 55.0.A.2.278 . ( i understand androdi 10 is still pending).

Hi @bobel001, as @NunoSEN2 mentioned, the customization you have is not intended for retail devices.

Either the device was at service and it was flashed with the wrong customization (I have seen that occur before) or the person you bought the device from received a brand new one in some kind of insurance case or through warranty/claim and it was not flashed with the correct customization.

You can flash a different customization, but I would recommend that you instead get in touch with the seller, since the paper work and so on might not be in order, or there may be something shady with the device in general.

@Robi_2109, no one will be able to tell you exactly when you will receive the update, you will just have to wait for the notification to pop-up in your device.

@Robi_2109,

Yeah, the rollout for Android 10 for the Xperia 5 and Xperia 1 has started with the other devices receiving it in early 2020.

As I wrote earlier, I have never had and will never have an exact date for when a specific device will receive the update. I know about the updates as much as a normal user does, when they are planned to rollout, but apart from that I have no access to see when a specific device/customization will receive the update.

Earlier today, more customizations received the update so it has not stopped at least.

Xperifirm makes the tedious task of downloading original Sony firmware or ROM easy. It takes away the hassle of searching suitable firmware for an Xperia device model simple. Xperiafirm is also sometimes referred to as a Sony firmware update tool, as it allows downloading the latest stock firmware for Sony devices.

Below we have shared all the versions of the XperiFirm Flash Tool, which are released so far. Download XperiFirm latest version and download Sony Firmware/Sony Xperia Firmware for your Sony Smartphone.

Updating the firmware to the most recent version on my Xperia Z, the installation failed, presumably when my laptop went to sleep during the update. Now the phone will not turn on at all. It won't progress past the 'Sony' load screen, where it just loops back to this point while trying to power up. The power icon remains red irrespective of charge.

Using the power & up-volume button trick to force a reset does not work (as per this post). Nor does charging the phone for 8+ hours. Using the Sony PC Companion software does not recognize the model of the device, only that it's a Sony phone (and advises doing a battery removal to force a reboot).

Any thoughts? The device is thoroughly bricked, not even showing the colorful flame/wave load animation, which is somewhat given that I was following the manufacturers instructions. In retrospect, I should have just left the working software version in place, and learned to live with the persistent popup to download the latest firmware.

XperiFirm Tool is a free and open-source software tool that allows you to download the latest firmware for Sony Xperia smartphones, tablets, and accessories. It is a small, lightweight tool that does not require installation and can be run on Windows OS.

Please aware that all updates are rolled out in batches and are specific to the region and network (where applicable) that the product was made for. With this being the case not everyone will get the update at the same time. Unfortunately we are unable to confirm specific date for any particular firmware release due to the nature of the approval process.. For further information regarding the approval process please see here.

I would not see this as a problem since the update was released by you guys over two months ago. For comparison, The larger 4.3 android update was released, and I did get that update within 2 weeks of official roll-out start date. And you have to also take into account that this is a tablet, not a phone and thus not dependent on any carrier certification process.

So you have to understand, that its seems a bit ridiculous when I have to wait more than two months for a smaller update, while KitKat (4.4.2) is just around the corner and is being rolled out in May.

I have paid a fair amount of money for this tablet and have been loyal to the Xperia brand by owning several Xperia phones already. Your support thusfar has been nothing more than extremely lacking and I don't think you can afford losing more costumers based on this.

That is why I am baffled and don't get why I am not receiving the update. I mean there could be a hardware/software issue on my tablet, but these Sony guys aren't even looking into the problem to investigate properly. I paid 600 Euro's for this device and as part of the warranty agreement I have the right to some form of Support. This is ridiculous!!!

Not custom rom. For example, the tablet sold in USA have some USA apps, so different region has different regional firmware. I think they should have a generic Europe/UK firmware over there. And flashing that firmware yourself won't void your warranty.

Allright, in that case, no, I don't really need any Dutch specific software features. So its good to know that there is an option to do this. (could you point me to a tutorial of some sort to do this, Also I could't find the latest generic build on the xperia website for download)

hi gals and guys! i wanna to buy xz premium chinese version and sellers says that installing global firmware. and i have a question - will work all band or chinese version hasnot global bands? and I live in Kazakhstan

Hi again @serg_panther!

You're very welcome!

Well as far as I can tell, there is no "Chinese" model of the Xperia XZ Premium, but the Dual SIM model has a customization for China, so it would make sense that this model is the one sold in China.

I know that some other models were released in China/Hong Kong, such as the Xperia XZ3 and that had a different model number compared to the "global" Single and Dual SIM devices, but that is not the case for the Xperia XZ Premium.

The bands are the same for both the Single SIM model (G8141) and the Dual SIM model (G8142).

You can always ask the seller for the model number in case you want to make sure but as far as I can see in all the documentation I have available, there are only 2 versions of the the Xperia XZ Premium and both are global versions as there are plenty of different customizations of the software available. You can also try and get a hold of the IMEI number of the device and get back to me with it in a private message and I can check everything for you.

Hi @serg_panther, welcome to our forum!

The bands that are supported by device are "locked" to the hardware and it doesn't matter if you install a different firmware, this will not change the supported 2G/3G or LTE bands.

As far as I can see the "Chinese" version is the G8142, which is the normal Dual SIM version of the Xperia XZ Premium and below you can find the supported bands (same bands as the Single SIM version and the third version called G8188 is only for the Japanese market).

Jonas thank you very much, men! so you wrote bands for chinese phone? or they are the same for all places? in your text i have band 7 and 20 that i need. so if i buy chinese version and seller installed global rom - i'll get working device in my place?

if i get chinese version and myself installing russian -what i get? or if i buy g8141 and how i can get dual sim? i know sony in single sim has sim slot just blocked but has possibility to work with sim. for it need to change region code or how?

Hi again @serg_panther,

The bands will not changed as they are linked to the hardware and not the software.

The most important parts are that the actual model that you buy is supported in the network that your operator has and that the bands are supported by them.

It feels wrong to call it the Chinese version as the Dual SIM model is available in other markets than China, so don't think too much about that. Examples of some markets are, France, The United States of American, some countries in Central Europe, Singapore and so on.

The G8141 is a Single SIM device and does not have 2 SIM card slots, it has one slot for a SIM card and one for a SIM card. The G8142 has two SIM card slots, so you can use two SIM cards, or 1 SIM card and a SD card.

I ask that the craftsmen were flashing a single-SIM version of the firmware from the dual SIM card and the second slot was accepting a SIM card, only changing the background itself. For in the one-symbol second card does not stand up, there are no ledges. And if you download the firmware, do I need to flash the file pursist. and simlock. or not?
