A Granular Recovery Technology (GRT) enabled backup of a SharePoint database fails with the error "V-79-57344-33928 Access is Denied" in a Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) setup when the Content Database is hosted on a separate server from the Config Database inside the Microsoft##SSEE embedded SQL instance on the Sharepoint Server.

While running a GRT backup, an ODBC connection needs to be established to the Configuration DB hosted inside the Microsoft##SSEE embedded SQL instance from the SQL server hosting the Content databases. The above mentioned errors occur because "Remote Connections" is needed but cannot be enabled for the Microsoft##SSEE embedded SQL instance on the server where WSS is installed.

Backup Exec does not support GRT backups of SharePoint databases in a Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) setup that has been configured as described above.

The DL Appliance with Symantec Backup Exec 2010 has improved backup performance by using a new "V-Ray" technology. This is embedded into the core solution and gives customers an x-ray like vision to easily see, protect, and recover their virtual machines with the same solution that protects their physical environments.

The browser UI permits admins to monitor storage, RAID levels and health and alerts for the appliance and to manage its embedded software. That's all fine, but to create, run or debug backups and view logs and such requires access to the server console or a remote session. The browser UI provides a page with links to these major functions through Microsoft's Remote Desktop utility. When tested on the Mac, they got only as far as initiating a session.

I need to restore from tapes I backed up to about a year ago. When I put the year old tapes into my library it says they are empty/spare media. I run a full scan and it completes instantly and nothing is updated. Is there a way to inventory the tapes like in backup exec? I am new to using commvault.
