A DNS zone is the specific portion of a DNS namespace that's hosted on a DNS server. A DNS zonecontains resource records, and the DNS server responds to queries for records in that namespace. Forexample, the DNS server that's authoritative for resolving www.contoso.com to an IP address wouldhost the contoso.com zone.

A DNS server hosting a primary zone is the primary source for information about this zone. It storesthe zone data in a local file or in AD DS. To create, edit, or delete resource records, you must usethe primary zone. Secondary zones are read-only copies of primary zones.

You can store a standard primary zone in a local file, or you can store zone data in AD DS. When youstore zone data in AD DS other features are available, such as secure dynamic updates and theability for each domain controller that hosts the zone to function as a primary and be able to processupdates to the zone. When the zone is stored in a file, by default the primary zone file is namedzone_name.dns, and it's located in the %windir%\System32\Dns folder on the server.

A secondary zone is a read-only copy of a primary zone. When a zone that this DNS server hosts is asecondary zone, this DNS server is a secondary source for information about this zone. The zone atthis server must be obtained from another remote DNS server computer that also hosts the zone. ThisDNS server must have network access to the remote DNS server that supplies this server with updatedinformation about the zone. Because a secondary zone is only a copy of a primary zone that ishosted on another server, it can't be stored in AD DS as an Active Directory Integrated zone.

In most cases, a secondary zone periodically copies resource records directly from the primary zone. But in some complex configurations, a secondary zone can copy resource records from anothersecondary zone.

A stub zone only contains information about the authoritative name servers for the zone. The zonehosted by the DNS server must obtain its information from another DNS server that hosts the zone. This DNS server must have network access to the remote DNS server to copy the authoritative nameserver information about the zone.

When a DNS server loads a stub zone, such as widgets.tailspintoys.com, it queries the nameservers, which can be in different locations, for the necessary resource records of theauthoritative servers for the zone widgets.tailspintoys.com. The list of name servers may containa single server or multiple servers, and it can be changed anytime.

A stub zone is a copy of a zone that contains only those resource records that are necessary toidentify the authoritative Domain Name System (DNS) servers for that zone. Typically, you use a stubzone to resolve names between separate DNS namespaces.

In most Domain Name System (DNS) lookups, clients typically perform a forward lookup, which is asearch that is based on the DNS name of another computer as it is stored in a host (A) resourcerecord. This type of query expects an IP address as the resource data for the answered response.

DNS also provides a reverse lookup process, in which clients use a known IP address and look up acomputer name based on its address. A reverse lookup takes the form of a question, such as "Can youtell me the DNS name of the computer that uses the IP address 192.168.1.20?"

The in-addr.arpa domain was defined in the DNS standards and reserved in the Internet DNSnamespace to provide a practical and reliable way to perform reverse queries. To create the reversenamespace, subdomains within the in-addr.arpa domain are formed, using the reverse ordering of thenumbers in the dotted-decimal notation of IP addresses.

The in-addr.arpa domain applies to all TCP/IP networks that are based on Internet Protocol version4 (IPv4) addressing. The New Zone Wizard automatically assumes that you're using this domain whenyou create a new reverse lookup zone.

The order of IP address octets must be reversed when the in-addr.arpa domain tree is built. The IPaddresses of the DNS in-addr.arpa tree can be delegated to organizations as they're assigned aspecific or limited set of IP addresses within the Internet-defined address classes.

Zone transfers allow you to control the circumstances under which a secondary zone to be replicatedfrom a primary zone. To improve the security of your DNS infrastructure, allow zone transfers onlyfor either the DNS servers in the name server (NS) resource records for a zone or for specified DNSservers. If you allow any DNS server to perform a zone transfer, you're allowing internal networkinformation to be transferred to any host that can contact your DNS server.

You can divide your Domain Name System (DNS) namespace into one or more zones. You can delegatemanagement of part of your namespace to another location or department in your organization bydelegating the management of the corresponding zone. For example, delegating theaustralia.contoso.com zone from the contoso.com zone.

When you delegate a zone, remember that for each new zone that you create, you need delegationrecords in other zones that point to the authoritative DNS servers for the new zone. Delegationrecords are necessary both to transfer authority and to provide correct referral to other DNSservers and clients of the new servers that are being made authoritative for the new zone.

I have been looking around the files for a while now and I cannot figure out a way to disable the thruster system or wall running in BO3 mp. I am creating a mod for BO3 mp that is going to have boots on the ground gameplay and would like to remove both of these things from the mod. I am not a scripter by any means so I am not entirely sure what to do lol. If you know something that would be helpful, please let me know! thank you! :)

Yeah I looked in the mods folder and there was only zone and zone source folders to begin with. I added a sound folder for the weapon sounds, but I don't see a script folder anywhere. I assume I could build one if done the right way, but I am wayyy too noob and don't know how to do this stuff haha.

Yeah I have looked in there a couple different times. It puts mods in a completely different folder since it is not a map technically, even though a map is a mod as well. This is a multiplayer gameplay mod I am working on. But yeah, no script folder or files haha. Just zone and csv stuff for the most part then a few odds and ends. I'm sure it uses scripts from the share directory, but none that are generated by the modtools launcher when creating maps that I am aware of. Idk if you can set variables in zone files or not. I'll keep playing around with it, but if you know something that would help, then by all means please do haha.

you see, i always thought that even mods have .gsc and .csc files. But i guess not. I have put them in my test map but just set them to 'true' and they work fine; they were taken from the core multiplayer scripts. try maybe getting the zone file to target like a duplicate of the core mp file and maybe then we'll see what happens.

ps. giving a tutorial on how to do this is going to be way too much to type, Sorry.

You create the folders...

and you copy a script that is already loaded to your mod so you can override it - then hook from it as a point of entry

maps and mods are totally different. You can run a mod on top of a map

they are recognized and i told you already - it doesnt GENERATE any scripts

you have to find one that is loaded already - and OVERRIDE it with your own

use _load.gsc / csc or something

they are not variables either - they are dvars

First, I just want to say thank you for helping out you guys. It has been appreciated a lot and is a good learning experience. Secondly, I am not sure how to do that lol. I'll play around with it and see what I can figure out, but not sure if I will get anywhere haha. True yeah you're right it's not a variable.. It's a Developer Variable I believe haha
