I am completely new to cakewalk, and I don't understand what the purpose of the assistant is? I would rather not install the band lab assistant because it seems like people are having a lot of problems with it. I read the other threads about it but none actually explains what this does all they do is repeat what the website says about it which I have no clue what it is for, I am a noob and don't know the terminology. My main question though is do I need it to get the free plugins? Thanks.
I'm trying to download Bandlab to use cakewalk but running into some trouble. I've downloaded the assistant app but when I try to log in by clicking the button, nothing happens. I've tried restarting the app several times and uninstall and reinstall the app with no difference. Any ideas?
To install Cakewalk by Bandlab, also known as just "Cakewalk", go to the Cakewalk download page. Keep in mind that you will need to create a Bandlab account and download their desktop assistant, "Bandlab Assistant." It isn't too large and isn't a big problem, but if you don't want to download anything but Cakewalk, then just close the tab and go look at how much Ableton Live or maybe Reaper cost ($400 and $60, respectively. Cakewalk and Bandlab Assistant are free). If you're still here, then I assume that you're fine with downloading Bandlab Assistant.
No. Certain features on www.cakewalk.com may still work, but we are now in a migration process to ensure everything that has been acquired will be safely transferred as well as archiving the old site onto a legacy subdomain.
If the vst has an .exe file, just execute it and it will set it up for you. If not, you will see a .dll file in the free download and you will go to your C drive, click on program files, then cakewalk and then vstplugins. Drop the .dll file in there and you are good to go. When you open cakewalk the next time, you should see it under you insert column under soft synths. If it is an effect, right click in your effects bin on any given track and you should be able to find it from there. Hope this works for you.
