1. Earth is made of six layers.

A. Draw a diagram of Earth's six layers that shows the relationship between the depths of each layer as close to scale as possible. (4 points)

B. Label the names and depths of each layer. (6 points)

2. What causes the pressure to increase as you go deeper below the crust? (5 points)

Because the density of the force increases.

3. If the inner core has the highest temperatures, why doesn't the rock it's made of melt? (5 points)

Denser solid materials fall into the core through the less dense liquid comprising the mantle And pressure.

4. Rock in the crust moves around differently than rock in the lower mantle.
A. Is the rock in the crust able to move around more easily than the rock in the lower mantle? (1 point)

No it's the other way round. Rock in the mantle is hotter, Rock in the crust is much cooler, like frozen ice and so it is much harder to move around.

B. What causes the difference in the movement? (4 points)

the temperature and they move around if they are hot and if they are cold.

5. This cross-section of Earth shows the paths of seismic waves from an earthquake. Letters are seismic stations on Earth's surface. Which station point would receive no seismic waves? (5 points)

Mantle.

6. Seismic waves that go straight through Earth make the trip very quickly.
A. What does that tell us about the composition of Earth’s center? (5 points)

This happens because of the pressure caused by alot of rocks on top, being pulled towards the center by gravity

B. What characteristic of seismic waves tells you this? (5 points)

transverse,they only travel through solids.

7. How is the composition of a meteorite relevant to finding out the composition of Earth's core? (10 points)

Earth and meteorites were formed out of the same stuff. The meteorites have not been subject to the heating that has permitted much of the heavy material to migrate to the earth's core.
