Hey everyone!

It's been about a month since I've posted my "holy crap, they just changed the MacArthur showcase event deadline!!!!" post.  In that time, a number of you contributed a LOT of help in the background, and as a result, we had a *stellar* presence at the showcase.  So, I just wanted to give a collective THANK YOU!  If you haven't seen our new 3 minute video, check out the new playpower.org front page.

As part of the deadline, the Indian student team completed their working code for the Hanuman Quiz Adventure and Hanuman Typing Warrior games, and Brian Parker (aka Retrozone) helped us get the code onto cartridges.  It took some testing and debugging, but both of the games work on actual clone hardware!  That was an important milestone for us, as this was the first content we've been able to run on the $10 computer.  The games still need a lot of level design and content (especially music), so definitely let me know if you are interested in contributing...

This summer, Kishan Patel (the 8-bit development lead from India) will be joining me in Pittsburgh, so this should be a really productive time.  Kishan is leading a really great team of students in India who are building the games in India.  He is also helping me manage another team of students who are doing fieldwork for Playpower, by doing a series of interviews with 8-bit game shopkeepers and households.  This fieldwork team will also be helping us test the games with families in India.

Our technical goals for the summer include:
1. Improving the hardware testing environment
2. Completing 3 8-bit games all the way; designing and prototyping another 3 learning games.
3. Incorporating these games onto the single "educational" cartridge
4. Completing some new development tools, like NO CARRIER's graphics editor and cc65 for NES (aka nesi65)

More news soon!  Any questions, comments?

Cheers,
Derek
