parsing YAML, "found character '\t' that cannot start any token"

I am banging my head trying to boot strap some data on startup to my
application using YAML.

It tells me all the time: Cannot parse the /conf/bootstrap-data.yml
file: found character '\t' that cannot start any token

I have got it working, but then on other lines it gets caught out.

I am using 1.2RC2 and Fixtures.load() rather than Fixtures.loadYaml
because the latter doesn't seem to work for me.

Advice would be welcome.
