Hi

You can mavenize your project using my Maven Plugin for Play! Framework
(http://code.google.com/p/maven-play-plugin/)
and you will have all Maven commands (plugins) available.
Test it on my test projects:
http://maven-play-plugin.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/test-projects/

Greetings

Ivy provides this kind of feature by generating html dependencies report :

http://ant.apache.org/ivy/features.html

As Play uses Ivy for dependencies, is there a way to use native Ivy features?

I know is late but for others that are searching for a solution like me:

play dependencies

will generate a table of dependencies (where you could at least understand why some artefacts are needed). It works for sure in play-2.1.1

For a tree, I personally add the following sbt plugin in project/plugins.sbt:

// dependency graph
addSbtPlugin("net.virtual-void" % "sbt-dependency-graph" % "0.7.1")

you can then use "dependency-tree" in the play console
