Only one course per week.Personally I don't find chess.com lessons to be that critical.Watching GM Naroditsky's speedruns and guides is more than enough in my opinion. I.e YouTube chess lessons are more than worthy that is, so I personally wouldn't buy a membership for just the lessons.Have a good day ?!
For members who don't have membership, they are only able to choose 1 video lesson per week. For members who have membership (Gold, Platinum, Diamond), it would be unlimited access to video lessons. Also regarding with @Tekhenu_m_Mer said, it is true but not completely. There are some Chess.com lessons that are high quality. The only is that they are hard to find. I found a certain FIDE master who's videos were top tier and very useful, but they weren't on the front page. Though I might not recommend to buy membership if it was just for lessons.
The problem is that I left chess.com for 2 years, and before this 2 years I used to watch chess.com lessons from a certain international master (whom I don't remember his name), and came back few days ago. I completely forgot who's video it was.
So I saw that chess.com has a few lessons and drills which I think could be helpful for me but the ones I am looking for are behind the Diamond subscription paywall which I think is quite expensive, but I would be willing to pay for a month or two if the lessons are worth it. The drills I can just copy the position and play stockfish on lichess and I can do tactics on chesstempo so my question is mostly for the lessons.
Being honest... the Old lessons were better, the Old analysis was better, the interaction between members has been ruined, the forums are getting worse, the lag still there. So what going on guys? EA sport have the same problem? Change for change sake. Some 15yr golf games are better than their recent stuff. What was wrong with at least giving people the option of classic lesson?!
That's an @erik question but my guess is that they removed the code for those lessons for a reason (likely removal of legacy javascript libraries the site no longer supports) and they now have to migrate the lessons to the current format to work.
redghost101, i have feeling like erik rented you to defend, e.g. to show that there is one who likes new lessons. For you and Erik, just enjoy your site. For others, I found one that could be alternative, try chessable.
Hi,
Im rather new to chess.com and this is my first post, so my apologies for maybe asking something with an obvious answer that I have missed. I have done the free lessons in the chess mentor course (beginner, intermediate and the advanced lessons) and thought they were really helpful.
Now when I have started the expert level course, I can only do one lesson per day. So now when Im considering if its worth paying to be able to do more lessons (quicker), I wonder how many lessons I can do in total in the chess mentor program?
It seems to be 5 courses/50 lessons per "level", and if I look at my mobile phone, there is only two levels that I havent completed (expert and master). Does that mean that there is only 100 lessons left for me to do? Or is there more to do in the chess mentor program when I have finished the remaining expert and master courses/lessons?
Yes that is a good reason to get a diamond membership. My problem, as I have kids, is rather lack of time. I dont have time to do more then 3 lessons per day, most days not even that, so if I upgrade my account, the most basic upgrade would probably be enough. Atleast until I get addicted enough.. ;-)
It's actually really hard to find good lessons. Most lessons cannot give feedback regarding the approach, your reasoning, the consequence, and whether it was the correct choise based on the reasoning.
Most of those lessons come from the mastery ones, honestly, the mastery ones aren't that useful after you get through the advanced ones, you see most of the solutions practically instantly, the only one I would recommend from the mastery one is the opening as that isn't as intuitive and helps a lot in-game.
I have recently started paying for the Gold membership on chess.com. I am a bit overwhelmed with deciding what lessons to do. I am around 1600 so I don't want to start at the beginning but at the higher levels there are 100s of lessons to choose from and I have no idea where to start. Does anyone have a suggestion?
Both Lichess and chess.com have lessons that I have tried out briefly. I have the perception chess.com (paid) lessons ( ) and even Youtube lessons are much broader and higher quality than lichess practice sets ( ). Lichess also has community studies ( ) which I feel tend to be pretty basic and also not written or explained well. Is this perception objectively correct? From experience, are lichess lessons inadequate for anyone other than a beginner?
A lot more resources are put into chess.com lectures than into lichess studies/practice.This can be seen for example in the coverage of wrong moves and explanations for them being wrong. Chess.com pays trainers and employees to create high-quality material, but that means that you will also have to pay for them.On the other hand, lichess studies are usually created by amateur chess players. Overall, you can hardly compare chess.com lectures and lichess studies.I am sure that there are great community studies on lichess, but you have to find them. The quality of lichess studies only depends on the individual creator of that study. However, you can be sure that all chess.com lectures have a certain standard. Most lichess studies cover openings, whereas chess.com has many lectures on all parts of the game.
If you've been away from Chess.com for a while and want to start fresh on your progress, or maybe you have completed all the lessons and want to start over, there is an easy way to clear your progress in Lessons or Drills!
Once training is reset, your lessons page will show as if you are a new member with no progress. This will NOT affect what access you have to any Lessons based on your membership. All this will do is clear which Lessons are marked as complete.
