Guys - to reduce plasic water bottles at the beach, how about a campaign to install WATER FOUNTAINS at the beach??

Simple but effective.  Then, we can lean on local business to carry container rather than disposable, single-use bottles!!

Here is a project that has started in SF and installs water fountains made for refilling reusable water bottles.  The first one is in Yuerba Buena Gardens.  I know the founder and he is passionate about getting them everywhere so would probably do a bunch of the leg work to go along with SurfRiders efforts.  I can connect you if you want.

The absolute beauty of this idea is how positive it is. Instead of
against bottled water, it's pro municipal water. So great to give
people an alternative. I just love this.

I really like the idea of drinking fountains at the beach and it is kinda a no-brainer, why aren't they there already?  I have seen the reusable water bottle water fountain at Yerba Buena and think it is an excellent idea but one problem I have with it is that you can't just take a drink from it without putting your head at an awkward angle.  It really isn't made for someone walking by who wants a sip of water.  Traditional water fountains have an advantage in this case because you can take a drink and fill your water bottle from it.  Just my two cents.

Plumbing. You'll probably have to start with plumbing if you really want it to happen... in a broke-ass city, county, state, and nation, getting an earmark for $50,000 worth of pluming to run a drinking fountain out to the beach may be insurmountably challenging. North OB parking lot has no accessible plumbing (despite the fact that there's a block of toilets buried under the parking lot!!!) Judah has that bathroom block which would make it easy to install a drinking fountain next to it. Also Sloat, but there's already a drinking fountain there.

Just my thoughts... I did some digging and gave some thought to getting toilets installed on the beach side of Grt Hwy at North OB and that's what I discovered. Plumbing is the key.
