Guys -
I hope that everyone is well! Carolyn Box has taken over as Chariman of the Plastic Committee. YEA!!! As you may know, Carolyn (aka C-box) has been on a plastic expedition with the 5 Gyres and is working on more projects with them. . . so she is goign to do an awesoem job with this committee. She is holding her first meeting on Tuesday, 11/5 at the Pizza Place on Noriega by Ocean Beach and I hope you can come support this cause.
One idea that we will be discussing is leveraging corporations to reduce plastic. Bring ideas!! I'd like to use both the stick (i.e. Beth Terry's boycott of Brita) and the carrot (i.e. a reward for good business). I'm proposing a very simple "Business of the Year" award to recognize a business who has successfully kicked the plastic habit. I want to order another round of Kleen Kanteens with the award announcement and the RAP info on the bottles. From my experience with the Plastic Wave, I learned that once a business became aware of the all the plastic they used, they changed pretty quick!! In this case, it was a Physical Therapy clinic who replaced plastic bottled water (which were used in making of the plastic wave) with a bubbler and paper cups. So easy!! :)
I hope you can make the meeting to discuss this and other plastic-reduction ideas. C-box will be consolidating the email list into a RAP list so please let her know if you want to join that list.
Some other news from Stop the Plastic Wave:
- Beth Terry completed her book and sent it in, "My Plastic Free Live"
- Ke11y Slater won his 11th World Championship of surfing in perfect OB weather yesterday, SF Surfrider and Michael Steward made it the greenest surf contenst ever.
- Save the Waves Film Fest is on Friday, should be great!
I hope to see you all next Tuesday!
