Hi Guys,
Great meeting on Monday. Thanks to all who attended. The next meeting will be in April.
Here is a quick recap:
Big Event for 2010 - TAPPED The MovieThere is ANOTHER plastic movie coming out called Bag It (see below). Beth Terry is in this one! I'm not sure when it will be available but we should either show a trailor or maybe a double feature with TAPPED!! Thanks so much to Sara for taking the lead on organizing this big movie event. If anyone has any input, sponsor ideas (drinks, food, or money), or want s to help her organize this, please email her at :
sara...@gmail.com.
Carrot and/or Stick Mob
Everyone is STOKED to get in a corporate campaign. Several ideas where discussed including: Pac Bell Ball Park, Method Cleaning Products, Jamba Juice, Rainbow Grocery, or a I-hate-packaging day. We will pick on at the next meeting in April and execute it this summer.
Metal Canteens
We will continue this program with another order, same style bottles. We discussed several ways to recoup some of our investment on these including selling them at Surf shops (pete is taking Aqua and christine is taking proof lab). Other idea was to sell these at events. Next big event (after the new bottle come in) we will experiment with this.
Soccer FieldsWe are partnering with Green Laces to make the greenest possible recommendation on the new soccer fields behind The Beach Chalet. Eric Hansen is the lead from Surfrider SF and Natalie and her team of of hot soccer chicks will lead the charge from Green Laces. If you have any input, please forward to Eric cc-ed on this.
Plastiki Launch EventThere will be a team on-site tomorrow representing RAP and SF Srufrider. Dennis is the lead on this.
SF City Trash TaxLindsey is trying to get an introduction for our ideas to Gavin through his wife. The idea is to get plastic water bottles taxed, similar to the way they are taxing cigarettes to pay for the clean-up.

Subject: Bag It Update
Bag It has groundbreaking news!
Bag It’s host and the quintessential everyman, Jeb Berrier, spends two days in the film as a human guinea pig, undergoing a body burden test for BPA and phthalates, two plastic additives that are known endocrine disruptors. We all come into contact with these toxic chemicals through our foods, personal care products, and plastic containers every day.
The results have come in and the numbers are shocking.
Jeb's BPA levels went up 110 times, and his phthalates averaged an 11 times increase! This is after only two days of eating Spam out of the can, lathering his body with phthalate-laced lotions, and pushing ‘high’ on his microwave to heat food in so called “microwave-safe” containers.
Our Government and the American Chemistry Council do not want us to uncover the ugly truth. Everyday, we’re eating and breathing in chemicals that alter our hormones and reproduction.
The proof is in the plastic-packaged pudding folks, literally and figuratively.
In Bag It, Jeb navigates the hard and soft plastic facts and finds his way to solutions with candor, humor, and a personally-fueled conviction as a new father.
Coming this Spring! Bag It will change the way you look at plastic forever!
