Dear all,

I wanted to replicate the figure 5.3.1 of Wesson book, which illustrate the cross sections for charge exchange and ionization by plasma ions and electrons as a function of a neutral beam energy:

I though it would be easy to get the cross section data or fits from somewhere, but not so much in fact, especially for someone like me knowing few about nuclear physics.... ;)

I found they were described in the 1st volume of the redbooks from ORNL (referenced in issue #52 https://github.com/PlasmaPy/PlasmaPy/issues/52), but the data does not exactly match the Wesson's figure. So I'm wondering what specialists commonly use for data like these. Is it possible to get them from PlasmaPy or SpectroPy ?

Best regards,

Julien

Hello,

As far as I know this atomic and molecular (A&M) data is somewhat scattered across databases, and is usually not very convenient to access. It is also amazingly complex, depending on how many atomic and vibrational energy levels are taken into account. A straightforward interface to this data would be a great addition to PlasmaPy in my opinion.

EIRENE has collected a lot of this data in one place, and AMJUEL contains fits to many hydrogen processes: http://www.eirene.de/html/amjuel.html

There's also OpenADAS, but that doesn't have much on hydrogen (that I could find): http://open.adas.ac.uk/

IAEA has some databases such as ALADDIN: https://www-amdis.iaea.org/databases.php

QuantemolDB is a commercial, but largely open database of reactions: https://quantemoldb.com/

Best regards

Ben

Hi all,

I was recently looking for similar data; I've ended up using Nakai, et al. (1987), as it's the most recent comprehensive survey of experimental results that I could find (there may be better/more recent compilations that I just don't know about; also, it's possible that Ben's resources may already encompass it (I haven't looked at the citations for those databases yet)):

Thanks for pointing to new resources.

I'd also tried ALADDIN, but when I request numerical data the numerical data section is empty...

I understand that the data repository of the Controlled Fusion Atomic Data Center (CFADC), from which the redbook originated, is no longer available, isn'it ?
