Hello everybody!

I'm just starting out with Slag and Plasmacore, but enjoying it so
far : )

Just out of interest, I'm not too up on global slang, but are you
aware of the connotations of the word "slag" in the UK?

Also, very excited about the iPhone port news, but that's probably
food for another discussion.

Well... Slag IS easy! ;)

Seriously though... when I settled on the name Slag some years ago
(~2003) I was just happy to have a cool name that wasn't already taken
by a language (you might be surprised!). While the word has no
negative connotations in the States, I did become aware of it's status
in the UK as a pejorative a few years ago. After some discussion
though we decided to keep the name for four reasons:

1) As far as I can tell it's not *that* bad.
2) It's still used in the UK with its original meaning too.
3) Slag the Dinobot has already tested the international waters
without incident.
4) I'm taking it back! (referencing the scene in Clerks II).

Still, let me know if you think it might turn into an issue. I grew
up on C64, Amiga, and AMOS and thus am very fond of UK coders... I'd
hate to have something as simple as a name doom my language!

Yeah, it's not that bad.

Just got a giggle from some of my friends when I mentioned it. They
later asked how I was getting on with that new Spank language... :)

Anyway, work work is taking front stage for me at the moment, but
hoping to get down and dirty with some Slag programming at the weekend
or next week.
