Thank you for continuing to pray with us for the church in Alameda. There is a lot to announce now, and there will be plenty more in the next month or so. Here are a few updates…
Updates:
Our family will be hosting an “Island-Warming” party next Sunday, 8/26, from 4-7pm at Franklin Park in Alameda. (This will take the place of a housewarming party, since our house is too small to have as many people over as we’d like.) This is a great chance for potential church plant members to meet and get to know one another. If you’re interested in the plant, or just want to hang out, please join us!
On Sunday, 9/9, at 4pm we will have a church plant Interest Meeting. Here I will lay out our vision for the church plant and invite anyone who believes in that vision to join us at our core team meetings, beginning in October.
I am continuing to find like-minded ministries in the East Bay, meeting people who share our vision for a gospel-centered church in Alameda, and building relationships with our neighbors and others in the community here. We love this island city, and are grateful to God that he has brought us here.
…and ways to keep us in prayer.
Prayer Requests:
For the team: I’m incredibly grateful for the people God has already called together. Please pray he would work by his Spirit to unite and equip us for the work he’s set before us.
For a meeting location: We need someplace to meet, monthly beginning in October, weekly beginning in March. Please pray the Lord provides.
For our unbelieving friends and neighbors: God seems to be opening cool doors. I may have a chance to start a student ministry at the College of Alameda. I’ve continued to meet and build relationships with all sorts of people throughout the island. Please pray for gospel opportunities. We are still praying God would save 10 people in the first year of our plant, and that work starts with us building relationships and seeking to bless the community.
For financial provision: We will begin fundraising in earnest this fall as we try to raise at least $60k to fund our initial efforts to get the church going. Please pray that the Lord would provide abundantly.
On Sunday, I had the privilege of preaching from 1 Corinthians 8 at Wellspring, one of our sending churches. It’s incredible to see how Paul’s explanation of the gospel always leads us back to mission. You can listen here.
Thank you for your partnership in prayer. Your prayers are felt and some have already been answered. Let’s keep seeking the Lord’s favor together, that Jesus’s name would be made great in Alameda, and many people would come to know and follow him.
