I was at a dinner party last night thrown by my parents. One of the
distguished guest mentioned that the roots of Willow trees are blood
red in color. I was wondering why. My speculative mind then supposed
the red was due to iron as it usually is in the natural world. Next I
tried to understand why a Willow might have iron in it. My conclusion
is that perhaps it's due to a hemoglobin like substance that brings
Oxygen to the water sogged and Oxygen poor roots.

There are some bananas that also have red sap when the pseudostem is cut. Fascinating characteristic isn’t it?
