As our group continues to grow I though it would be good to start a thread on resources for learning.

I'll kick it off with a link to a youtube video series I helped get off the ground with some fellow GIS analysts during Covid. It looks like they are still making free content in quick "byte" size videos.

Thanks for the resource share, Jena! I'll add that link to the list of resources I share with my colleagues who are interested in Pro. Along the lines of learning ArcGIS Pro, here are the other resources I typically share with my colleagues:

As for general Esri resources, I also share the following:

  • Esri Academy Training Catalog at https://www.esri.com/training/catalog/search/. These courses can serve as nice introductions to topics. Some are free, but some require an organizational license (or "maintenance subscription") to participate in.
  • Tutorial Gallery at https://learn.arcgis.com/en/gallery/. These are good ways to get introduced to practical applications and work through examples. Unfortunately, there are still no "Conservation" or "Libraries and Museums" categories of topics to search out.
  • Esri Massive Open Online Course Program (MOOC) at https://www.esri.com/training/mooc/ . Periodically, Esri hosts a free, 6 week long online courses on a topic such as Cartography or Spatial Data Science. These courses are not only available at specific times and for a specific duration though, or in other words not available on demand like the previously linked resources.

Thank you Kayla, this is a great list.  I'm working on a reference sheet for Gardens interested in using GIS at APGA this year, and may use a few of these.  If anyone else has some that would be great for any level of user and platform, please feel free to share. No resource is too small. Even defining projections or features are helpful aids.

Hey Jena,

Here are some books I have found useful:
  • A Primer of GIS: Fundamental Geographic and Cartographic Concepts by Francis Harvey
  • Designing Better Maps: A Guide for GIS Users by Cynthia A Brewer
