Old events are missing. Why?

I just noticed that a lot of the old events are missing. The furthest
back it goes is November 2010 and there should be many events before
that. I checked out the Events.xml and the events are #138 and up, no
events before that are listed. Is there any automatic setting that
deletes events after a certain date, or any way a user could
accidentally do this without deleting each event manually?
