Hi All,

I need some ideas...
My son is exclusively breastfed. We have just started solids once a day.
I had been rinsing by Bum Genius 3.0 covers in the washing machine instead of using the diaper sprayer over the toilet. I preferred doing it in the washer because I could have two hands free to rinse the poop off. And, isn't there a problem with the water splashing? Anyway, now that we are doing solids, his poop is peanut butter consistency. I'd really just like to spatula scrape it into the toilet! So, do you have any ideas for me? How did you deal with gooey poop in this stage?

We used liners until it solidifies a bit more. I throw disposable wipes in to wash with the diapers and use them as liners. They can be washed 2-5 times depending on the type and are way softer than the liners that come on a roll.

I see it's been a few days since you posted...how are things going so
far?

We are still mostly in the peanut butter stage as well (she's 12
months now) and I have found two things to be a big help...
1) a diaper sprayer and 2) flushable liners. Now that she is older, I
kind of "know" when she is due for a poopie, so I just put the liners
in we I think one is eminent as they can get pricey if you are using
them every diaper change (we use the Grovia ones...nice and soft).
Since the liner catches the solid matter, I usually only have to rinse
the poopie diapers when I didn't have a liner in. I tried the spatula
thing at first too...and it did get a large part of the poop off, but
most of time I still had to spray...and clean off the spatula too. So
in the end it was much easier and cleaner just to use the sprayer
only. A little TMI, but with some poops (usually the thicker ones) I
found they spray off easier if the are left to dry a little (a couple
hours maybe) in the diaper before I spray.

Oh, and be careful with rinsing in the washing machine. As I
understand it (though just from reading online, not personal
experience), solid matter does not drain well from the washer...so as
the poop gets more solid, it can stay in your washer and ruin it, plus
leave you with unclean diapers/ clothes.

Hi Sara,

Yes, I was only rinsing BF poop in the washer. The solids poops is too big to go down the holes in the washer so I would have to get it out with a paper towel anyway.
I think I should try some liners. Where do I get them in the Plano area?

My store, Babies Bottoms and More, sells flushable liners.  I just sold the last of the Bummis liners ($8 for a roll of 100) yesterday but I still have plenty of the Gro-Via liners ($10 for a roll of 200).  I'm in Farmers Branch, so if you take 635 to Webb Chapel and go north that's basically where I am.  We're open Saturdays from 1-4, or if you want to come during the week I'm open by appointment on Tu/Th.

Hi mamas,

I'm having a little trouble figuring out what to do.  My daughter is 22 mo and we've had the potty out for quite some time.  She tinkles before bath and whenever I feel like reminding her.  She is able to pee every time and her diaper stays dry for very long periods.  Yesterday I had her going on the potty all morning and she did every time.  SO...what is my next step?

My son was pampered and much older when he started pottying.  It was a breeze.  I'm at the point though with her dipes that she is leaking b/c she has so much pee (they don't have buildup, etc).  I guess its so hard for me to understand that she will have the ability to tell me that she needs to potty.  Her words are really just now blossoming even though I know she understands way too much going on around her!!!

I just don't want to fork over the dough for size large dipes when we would not be in them for very; however, I can't really figure out this potty training thing.  I learned with my son that they all do it on their own time table.  (And of course, I don't want to make life harder for me unnecessarily!!!!)

Help!!!!  I hope my rambling is understandable!!!

Hi Meredith,

I'm in the same place as you right now - 2 year old daughter who I think is ready to potty train and wondering where to go from here.

You might want to look into some of hte cloth training pants to help with the transition.  In my store, www.babiesbottomsandmore.com, we have Bummis, Imse Vimse, and Happy Heiny's trainers.  The Bummis and Imse Vimse are plain pull-on trainers, waterproof and absorbent on the inside.  The Happy Heiny's are a pocket trainer.  I used these at night for my son because I could stuff the heck out of them and they would last him through the night, but if he did wake up and wanted to go potty he could pull them down on his own.

I just ordered a new brand too that I'm excited to try, they're called Super Undies (www.superundies.com) I like them because they are trimmer than the HH pocket trainers, and they snap open on the sides which is such a help when my dd has a poopy accident.  I'm going to try them on her first and if I'm impressed then I will also be carrying Super Undies in my store.  You are welcome to come by and take a look at the different cloth trainers I have.  We're open Saturdays from 1-4, or if you want to come by during the week I'm open Tu/Th by appointment.

Hi,
I did get some liners. Yes, it is way easier.
Just FYI for everyone, the Huggies wipes don't do well in the wash.
