Research Grant for the research topic: "Circuit Compilation for Quantum
Computing".
Type of Grant: Graduate Fellowship.
Grant Code: ISTC-401-2023-RM
***********************************************************************************
A one-year research grant is offered by the Institute of Cognitive
Sciences and Technologies of the
National Research Council of Italy (ISTC-CNR), on the topic: "Circuit
Compilation for Quantum Computing".
The grant is supported under the program "SELF-CONTROL (Studying the
intEgration of symboLic reasoning and
machine learning For optimization and long-term autonomous CONTROL in
artificial agents").
Brief Description: The research program aims at contributing to the
definition of innovative algorithms
for the compilation problems of quantum circuits on Noisy Intermediate
Scale Quantum (NISQ) architectures.
The studied algorithms will be based on meta-heuristics such as genetic
algorithms, ant-colony optimization,
and / or local search. Similarly to what happens in classical computing,
compiling a quantum circuit is
the process of adapting the “quantum program” to the real quantum
hardware on which the circuit will be run.
Given the quantum technology currently available, this process is of
paramount importance for both the
correctness of the circuit execution and the fidelity of the obtained
results. Effective compilation can
optimize the resulting circuit by reducing the number of operations as
well as the total time required for
execution (circuit depth).
