Bachna Ae Haseeno is a 2008 Indian Hindi-language romantic comedy film directed by Siddharth Anand, whose previous projects included Salaam Namaste (2005) and Ta Ra Rum Pum (2007). Produced by Yash Raj Films, the film stars Ranbir Kapoor with Deepika Padukone, Bipasha Basu and Minissha Lamba in lead roles. The title of the film was taken from the popular song "Bachna Ae Haseeno" from Hum Kisise Kum Naheen (1977), which starred Kapoor's father Rishi Kapoor. Bachna Ae Haseeno released on 15 August 2008 on the 61st Indian Independence Day and grossed 61.57 crore worldwide, thus becoming the eighth-highest grossing Hindi film of 2008. It received mixed-to-positive reviews from critics upon release, who praised its soundtrack, cinematography and costumes, along with major praise directed towards Basu's performance. The film follows the journey of Raj Sharma, a young playboy who meets three young women at different stages in his life and learns important lessons about love along the way. As the story opens in 2008, it leads to a series of flashbacks over how he has grown to see through life. In 1996, he meets Mahi Pasricha, a sweet and dreamy girl who believes in true love and is hoping to find her 'Raj' (a reference to Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995)) i.e. her true love. He woos her with a poem and a kiss, but later dumps her when she overhears him boasting to his friends about what happened between them. In 2002, he meets Radhika Awasthi, an aspiring model and actress who lives with him as his live-in girlfriend. He promises to marry her and take her to Sydney, but backs out at the last moment when he gets a better job offer in Mumbai. In 2007, he meets Gayatri Nanda, a confident and independent taxi driver who studies at the Australian National University in Sydney. He falls in love with her and proposes to her, but she rejects him saying that she does not believe in marriage. Raj realizes that he has been wrong all along and decides to apologize to Mahi and Radhika for breaking their hearts. He travels back to India and finds Mahi married to Joginder Ahluwalia, a wealthy businessman who loves her dearly. Raj apologizes to Mahi and makes her realize that she has found her true 'Raj' in Joginder. He then goes to Mumbai and finds Radhika as a famous celebrity who is about to marry a film director named Sachin Khanna. Raj apologizes to Radhika and convinces Sachin that he is not trying to ruin their relationship. Radhika forgives Raj and wishes him well. Raj returns to Sydney and finds Gayatri working as a radio jockey. He confesses his love to her on air and proposes to her again. Gayatri accepts his proposal and they hug each other.
