Has anyone else had this issue? illustrator freezes multiple times a day. It is not a regular freeze. I am working on a MacBook it does not say 'not responding'. Also, the top bar on Illustrator opens and lets me click around but does not actually do anything. I attached a video so u can see what's going on. I really don't want to force quit. Anyone know of any solutions?

Thanks for the post. I'm updated on everything on Mac and latest illustrator and Im having the same problem. I can't even click on my menu at all. I have to shut down illustrator in order for the top menu to be clickable after I reopen. This is crazy.

I am having the same or similar issue - when using illustrator the top menu on a Mac freezes and I cant click on anything. I have found a workaround though, as it seems I can still open the top left-most "illustrator" menu > preferences > performance > enable/disable the GPU Performance checkbox. This seems to fix it temporarily, until it freezes up again and I have to go back into said Performance menu and check/uncheck GPU Performance again. It beats having to force quit Illustrator but it's still maddening and disruptive to workflow.

Clearly don't want to have to do this - but preparing to revert to Ventura (doing this on my Macbook fixed a rapid battery drain issue) but I have had loads of problems with both Illustrator and InDesign since updating to Sonoma.

Same. Illustrator DOES NOT WORK with OS Sonoma. None of tips fix anything permantly. Working on Mac Pro. Eeverything worked great untiI I upgraded to Sonoma. PLEASE FIX THIS. I have a ticket that has been active several weeks and Adobe has not been able to resolve the case.

I ended up going back to Ventura and things are working well again. In this case, Sonoma WAS the problem. I was using the latest Adobe apps. As an end user, I don't know if it's Sonama that doesn't play well with Adobe or vice-versa. I just know that on my company's IT platform the combo of Sonoma and Illustrator is a mess.

I have a new MBP with plenty of RAM, newest drivers etc. and this happens regularly and it is not your or my computer it is an Illustrator bug. It appears random, and solution is log out and back into the program OR (confirmation it is a bug), click:

I am having the same exact problem. Super frustrating!
I haven't been able to figure out what is causing it or how to fix the problem.
I am a 26 year veteran using a Adobe and a Ninja using Illustrator.
I am at the point where if I can do something in another application rather than use Illy
I'll do it, because it freezes too often. I also lob this on top. Where is the support Adobe?
It takes throngs of people with the same problem before you'll even consider speaking up in here.

I am encountering a similar issue when I leave Illustrator to idle in the background. I am accustomed to leaving it open for sometimes days on end, and moving between working on other things and working on Illustrator during the day.

In my case, Illustrator becomes completely non-responsive. No keyboard shortcuts, menus or anything respond. Right clicking the app icon in the dock and selecting "Quit" closes the program. I cannot interact with any artwork.

Hi! I thought it would be helpful for me to reply as yesterday I ended up doing a live-chat to figure out the issue as that was happening to me as well, and my workflow is similar as 80% of my work consists of leaving illustrator open:

I don't think it's illustrator that is the problem. I think it's Sonoma. I know my machine started getting laggy with Sonoma as well. I just downgraded to Ventura on my M1 Air and I cannot get it to crash. In the process of downgrading the M1 studio as I type this. I'll know by tomorrow if idowngrading to Ventura is the fix

Correct! It is a problem with Sonoma, which is a causing the bug on illustrator. I just think if you don't need the new features of AI, using 27.9.1 can help until the bug on Sonoma is fixed. It's easier than downgrading the OS, because other application I use, require the newest operating system

I just spent the better part of an hour trying to make the menu freeze up. NOPE.. Ai 28.1 and macOS Ventura 13.6.3 So, it seems that what ever it is, it is working fine with these 2 versions. I am still saying it's Apple with the problem and not Adobe. Its one of them thats for sure. LOL

I just got my new Cintiq Pro 24 - 4k display - Photoshop is working great - However, My menus are super tiny in Adobe Illustrator. I've gone through all the preferences and even suggested it size up for higher displays in the UI setting but nothing is changing this issue.

Just to better show the difference in size I took a screen shot of photoshop vs. illustrators drop down menu text. The menu headers, icons everything are fine - its just the text in the drop down menus. There has to be some setting somewhere for this - I just can't seem to find it.

I just did something with the Illustrator top right icons (arrange workspace/share, etc), and the Apple menu bar started working again. I'm not sure what I changed. If it hangs again, I will take notice and see. So far, it's been over an hour and it hasn't hung again.

I feel your pain, having the same issues. Super annoying in terms of workflow. On AI theres a workaround using the keyboard, I've basically been opening a new and using copy paste so to a new file so I dont lose my work. But then restarting. Doing a Mac update tonight, hopefully thats a help. I'm on same M1 chip Macbook using the studio display, so the monitor shouldnt be an issue

I am experiencing the same issue. The only thing working is the Illustrator option, all the other ones (file, view, help, etc.) are frozen. I can't click on anything and hovering my mouse does not bring out the drop down menu, etc.

I've had the same issue for the last couple of month or so. Overall illustrator is also running very slowly at times and seems glitchy. I'm working on a brochure and just had to restart it like 5 times because the menu bar keeps freezing. Sometimes it will start workng again if I give it a little time, but this isn't always the case. So much for getting a new $4,500 computer so things woudl be faster *eyeroll*. I see there is a new Sonoma update- I'll run that. I do not have the magnet app or additional monitors.

i have an imac and macbook pro. I use them separately and both have the same issue. Also i use another imac thinking maybe mine was the problem and as soon i open AI it stoped working. My imac and macbook are in the sonoma version.

Hi, wondering if anyone else has had this issue, but when I right click in Illustrator, the menu will appear off to the left instead of where I clicked. However, if I right click more towards the left of the screen, the menu will appear in the right spot. As I click farther and farther right, the menu will stay on the left side. Clicking on the far right of the window will make the menu appear in the center of the screen and it won't go any farther than that. Adobe support has taken control of my computer for a couple hours trying to fix the issue with no results. They've tried the issue in a new admin account, turning off GPU accelleration, turning it back on and toggling various gpu options, uninstalling avast, reinstalling AI, putting on 2015.3.1 instead, reinstalling 2017, trying the issue in safe mode, updating drivers for Nvidia, and deactivating the driver. Nothing they tried worked. I've had this issue since day one when I bought this computer in september and installed AI.

Hey, It's 2021, and I have the same problem. When I right clicked on AI, the menu would appear on the left side of the screen. Same problem also happened when I use dual monitor, the menu would appear on my laptop screen (which is the main screen).

Same problem - I've followed all of the steps above & working with OS v12.1 and Illustrator v 26.0.2 and every time I right click, the dialogue box shows up well below where my arrow is. I use the right click all the time for so many things - major slow down. I'm running on a MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2018) using an LG HDR 4K Display (31.5-inch [3840 x 2160]).

Thank you Alex! This is a much easier work around than the Adobe suggestion! I've never used the frame before but it doesn't look like it's going to interfere with anything. Until this bug is fixed by Adobe, I'll be using your solution.

Yes, either did I... I'd rather use App Bar cause it allows you to manage your workspace having other apps or finder windows open at the same time. Hope when a new update comes up we could get back to it.

I had this issue as well. Drove me nuts! When installing the latest version of illustrator I unchecked the box for maintaining all my settings/prefrences and it's back to popping up beside my arrow! Now I just have to go back and put my setting back the way I like them...

2023 and still the right click menue is stuck on the left bottom corner of my screen and doing the Appliancation frame thing is not working. Anybody?
Running MacOS VENTURA 13.4 on my 27-inch iMac

I have finally got some time to try to tackle this issue. So far I have been living with it but it has finally just hit me on how ridiculous and time wasting this issue is to continue to bear with. The problem is as follows:

I use 2 4k monitors in a dual monitor setup. I often don't split my workspace onto the two monitors but rather use one monitor for my workspace and the other for internet and windows explorer windows. The problem is that whenever I move my Illustrator program over to the 2nd monitor (Cintiq Pro) the dialog and menu boxes (resize, move, rotate, save, export, scale) all show up on Monitor one. This completely breaks my workflow since I have to put down the Wacom pen, and move the box over using the mouse from Monitor 1 to Monitor 2 (Cintiq Pro). A way to fix this is to drag any dialog box over to Monitor 2 every time it pops up, somehow Illustrator remembers this and then begins to load them in the correct Monitor. BUT if a monitor disconnects or powers off... OR I switch back to Monitor 1, I have to repeat this entire process over again.
