I only know that MySQL AB claimed their rights on the name and forbad
them to use MySQL in the product name and the domain. But it's
definitely not the truth that he was forced to take the product itself
out of the market - it was only an issue about branding and naming
rights. It often led to confusion that people thought that MySQL-Front
was a product from MySQL AB and I also heard that MySQL AB even got
requests from people who wanted to buy licenses for MySQL-Front from
MySQL AB.
For a short time afterwards, the product was offered as SQL Front on the
website www.sqlfront.com (which I think would have been in accordance to
MySQL AB's request), but obviously they decided to drop MySQL-Front -
then SQL-Front completely, but that was very likely not forced by MySQL AB.
I don't know every internal detail, but it looks very much like an
over-reaction from the MySQL-Front developers who now try to blame MySQL
AB for forcing them to discontinue the product which was nothing but a
request to change the name to make it distinctive from the company MySQL AB.
Cheers,
Markus

The MySQL-Front site is accusing MySQL AB of forcing them to go out of business.

Does anyone have any information on this fact?
Is there any official statement from MySQL AB?
I have only found this comment
http://www.heidisql.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=36#36 , from which I gather that the mysql-front site had some more detailed information. Whatever was there has now been removed.
Ciao

Unsurprisingly, all information I have on this matter matches Markus'
account of the matter.
I also heard that earlier on, the MySQLFront developer (I think it
is/was a one man show) seemed to have agreed to changing the name, but
then afterwards refused to actually finalize it.
Of course, all information I have concerning the matter stems from
internal sources and is thus by definition not objective.
Lenz Grimmer is the one that brought the matter to everybody's
attention - He should be able to answer detailed questions about it.
Hope this helps.

this is really interesting.
Under these circumstances I could very well understand if MySQL AB would
decide to sue the developer of MySQL-Front. Not only that
www.mysqlfront.de is still in use by Nils Hoyer (which was part of MySQL
AB's request to stop using it) - this can easily cause bad reputation
against MySQL.
I think we should (I could do that) inform MySQL's legal department
about this statement (which they might be aware of, I guess) and this
Italian article and let them decide what to do.
Cheers,
Markus
