Dear Peter,

AMOC decline could be indirectly warming water in Antarctica according to one theory. What do you think is going on? How important is it for glacier survival?

Best wishes, John

I'm from Rhode Island, the world's gold standard for measuring Antarctic iceberg size.

When vast quantities of icebergs break off of Antarctica and slowly melt, quantities of less saline surface seawater appear.  This water doesn't sink into the deep ocean.  Perhaps this is the driving factor in deep water incursion closer to the Antarctic coast.
