This not the new normal, it is part of an accelerated trend driven by rapid Arctic warming which reduces the temperature gradient driving Rossby waves around the planet. The jet stream gets stuck in blocking patterns hence increasing stuck weather and heat domes. Only SAI has the power to reverse this trend by lowering the Arctic temperature.
