Hi all,

The slowdown can be attributed to the breaking up of sea ice at end of summer, which spreads out the ice over a larger area, counting still as extent when more than 15% coverage. Thus the melt may not have halted as the authors assume, looking at their graph [1].

However the melt may have slowed, as Arctic Ocean moves towards a stable low-ice state.
