Excellent piece, Stephen! Thanks!

Can artificially altered clouds save the Great Barrier Reef?

Australian scientists are rushing to develop new technologies — such as ways to block sunlight — to help preserve corals in the face of climate change.

“In place of its normal load of cars and vans, the repurposed ferry boat sported a mobile science laboratory and a large fan on its deck as it left Townsville, Australia, in March.”

To read beyond that costs a “pretty penny.“

I searched for a free access as I don’t have a ‘Nature’ subscription, and found the podcast:

Well worth the time to listen (or read) in spite of the 2021 publication date.

Best regards,

P.S. I added HPAC to the distribution

Stephen,

Pursuant to the ‘Nature’ piece about Daniel Harrison’s efforts in the GBR, I’ve got a question pertaining to the operations you envision for cooling the Arctic.

Can you “pinpoint” generally where you initially think a fleet of drones would most effectively be deployed for “beta” or “pilot” testing, and then where the ultimate fleet of 400 (or 800 – 1,000) drones would be most effective, at least during Arctic summer? (Migration southward, of course, would be necessary, but where do you envision? Atlantic? Pacific? Indian?)

A few days ago, I quickly marked-up the attached NASA images dated June 28 (https://earth.gsfc.nasa.gov/cryo/data/current-state-sea-ice-cover)

It’s clear that space and time in the Arctic have significant constraints. These visuals tend to point to the Norwegian, Greenland and Barents Seas as a manageable target area, logistically speaking. Do you have a clear picture for near term and long term?

Best regards,
Doug
