Folks,

CDRANet has been working much of this year on developing a CDR policy and implementation framework with a cast of nearly 300 international stakeholders. The results of this effort will be forthcoming at CDR26, on October 20-21, 2026 in Vancouver, with the signing of the Vancouver Declaration

The Vancouver Declaration framework: "The Vancouver Declaration is a nonbinding statement of intent to work together in common cause to rapidly scale global carbon dioxide removal. The framework offers a common foundation for aligning efforts and promoting cooperation on this essential pillar of climate action... Unlike formal treaty processes—which often take years to negotiate and ratify—the Vancouver Declaration adopts a soft-law approach: a voluntary mechanism that enables immediate cooperation across governments, institutions, and stakeholder groups. The declaration also marks a shift in timing and urgency. While cutting emissions remains critical, the need for large-scale carbon removal is no longer theoretical or future-focused. It is a present-day challenge that no country can meet alone. This declaration and its policy framework provide a shared platform for launching coordinated CDR efforts now."

Join us in Vancouver on October 20-21, 2026, for CDR26 — the first in a series of annual conferences dedicated solely to turning our carbon-removal know how and ambitions into global, coordinated action. CDR26’s unique position in the climate conference ecosystem is that it is action-oriented, reporting on tech and policy progress in all CDR sectors, showcasing new developments and partnerships, and accelerating collaboration and coordination between governments, industry, science, and civil society. Organized by the global Carbon Dioxide Removal Action Network (CDRANet), CDR26 will mark the first annual gathering of the global CDR community where we focus on building the bridges, partnerships and capacity needed to scale CDR quickly, safely, sustainably, and equitably.

CDR26 will be a public-facing event for 500-700 guests, featuring:

  • TED-like presentations that showcase the latest in global CDR progress and policy developments
  • A tech quick-pitch session
  • Expert panels
  • Booths and posters
  • Lots of opportunities to mix and mingle with government decision makers, investors, and press, and
  • A signing ceremony for the landmark Vancouver Declaration and Policy Framework on Carbon Dioxide Removal, the world’s first soft-law agreement on CDR, which was developed by CDRANet members over the past year (and formerly named the Athens Declaration; we are following UN convention on naming climate agreements after their city of signing).

Registration and details are at cdranet.org/cdr26.

Early bird registration (with discounted fees) is open until January 1. There is no room block for this event, but there are many quality hotels within easy walking distance of the meeting venue (the Vancouver Convention Center).
