I just came across this website for Aria - Advanced Research and Invention Agency - a public body sponsored by the UK government through the Department of Science, Innovation and Technology.
It is apparently somewhat modeled on DARPA - the US defense advanced research entity, though it appears to be entirely independent of the military.
They are just starting up and have an appropriation of £ 800 million.
It appears that anyone - individual, corporation, or university from the UK, and even potentially beyond the UK can apply for support.
There are a number of program specialties each headed by a programme manager. The managers were just announced yesterday.
I’ve taken a screenshot below of the relevant language in support of funding for Climate intervention - both CDR and direct Climate cooling.
The program manager for climate intervention is Mark Symes, a professor of Electrochemistry at the University of Glasgow.
This appears to be an extraordinary opportunity and I urge our UK colleagues and others to reach out - perhaps in a coordinated manner - to Mark.
