Forky Asks a Question is an American computer-animated television series of shorts produced by Pixar Animation Studios based on the Toy Story franchise, set after Toy Story 4. It is the third Pixar short series, following the Cars Toons and Toy Story Toons. The series focuses on the character of Forky (voiced by Tony Hale) as he asks his friends different questions about life.
On Disney+ Investor Day 2019, Pixar's chief creative officer, Pete Docter, revealed that a new series of shorts, based on Toy Story 4's Forky, titled Forky Asks a Question, was in development for Disney+, with Tony Hale set to reprise his role from Toy Story 4. Hale said that the series is about "these questions that maybe people are embarrassed maybe to ask, but they really don't know".[1] Bob Peterson wrote and directed the series, and was produced by producer of Toy Story 4, Mark Nielsen.[6][7]
Joel Keller of Decider praised the humor of the series, acclaimed the quality of the animation, and found that the script manages to be entertaining for both adults and kids.[15] David Griffin of IGN rated the first episode of the series 9 out of 10, found the show to be very amusing and educational, stated that the animation reaches the level of Pixar's theatrical movies, and praised the performance of Tony Hale as Forky.[16] Emily Ashby of Common Sense Media rated the show 4 out of 5 stars, stating: "Forky Asks a Question centers on the breakout star character of Toy Story 4 as he ponders the big questions about the world and how it works. Each of the 10 short episodes sees one of his toy friends helping Forky learn things like what it means to be a friend, what defines art, and what time is. Forky absorbs information at a preschooler's pace, which means his focus changes a lot and he gets distracted at times, but he always manages to sum up the main point succinctly and thoughtfully. FORKY ASKS A QUESTION is a short-form series in which Forky (voiced by Tony Hale) poses the most important queries of life to the audience and to his playroom friends. His musings run the gamut from wondering about friendship and love to questioning the origin of cheese and the purpose of money, for instance. As he ponders these and other big questions, he gets some guidance from his toy pals like Hamm (John Ratzenberger) and Mr. Pricklepants (Robin Atkin Downes).
To answer your question though, those questions came out of who I wanted to pair him with. I love Hamm, [played by] John Ratzenberger, and I thought who better to talk about money then Hamm? So it's the side characters who drove it. The older characters, the Mel Brooks characters, had experience with life having been Bonnie's mom's toys and I thought maybe they'd have some wisdom about love. The cheese [episode] was just silly. It's silly [and] had really nothing to do with anything. The fun is he's not paying attention enough to get answers, but if there's any kind of learning takeaway it's generally his little bit of wisdom that comes on toward the end and there's a little bit there that we can learn.
One of the animators said Forky should ask what a particular dirty word means that we would bleep out and everyone would just run away from him. I don't know that we would do that, but it's so open ended. You can do so many things with it. We're concentrating on the questions we have, [so] I didn't allow myself to make any more of a list.
Debuting last November, the series centers on Forky (Hale), a spastic, plastic spork first introduced in Toy Story 4 who knows nothing of the world, asking in each episode a question to learn a little bit about it.

Forky, the toy built by Bonnie Anderson in Toy Story 4 using a spork, asks important questions about how the world works, such as: What is love? What is time? And of course, the deepest question of all... what is cheese?
What is a friend? What is art? What is time? These are some of the questions that every human finds him or herself asking. Some turn to ancient wisdom for these answers. Others seek the answers in their everyday lives.
The fifth episode of Forky Asks A Question on Disney+ attempts to answer the question "What is love?" Throughout the roughly four-minute short, Forky, voiced by Tony Hale, asks a toy elephant named Melephant Brooks (Mel Brooks), a child's chair named Chairol Burnett (Carol Burnett), and a toy rhinoceros named Carl Reineroceros (Carl Reiner) to explain love to him. (If you would like be totally surprised by what happens next, please note there are some spoilers for this episode ahead.)
The "very, very, very, very" senior toys reassure Forky that they know what they're talking about when it comes to love, with Melephant Brooks proclaiming, "I know everything there is to know about love." But when Forky asks him how to tell when you're in love, he simply responds, "No idea."
Beyond being simply entertaining and pretty darn funny, the toys' confusion over how to answer Forky's question in the simplest terms may give kids comfort to know that even grown-up adults are mystified and confused by love.
After Toy Story 3, fans were all asking one question: Where the bleep was Bo Peep?! I mean, her total absence from the third movie often made me wonder if Annie Potts had a big contract dispute with Disney or something. Fast forward nine years and for a character who did not have a huge part in the first two movies, Toy Story 4 seemed to bend over backwards to feature Bo again. (Maybe Annie got a raise?!)

Tony Hale (Veep) eventually took the stage to introduce a new series of short films coming to the streaming service. Forky Asks a Question will follow Hale's character from the latest Toy Story 4 as he explores the different aspects of life. Considering he was just created by Bonnie in the recent movie, he will have a lot of questions. Over the course of 10 shorts, Forky will find his answers. According to the official synopsis, these questions might surprise you.
Fans in the D23 crowd got a first look at footage from the upcoming series. In it, Forky walks across a room asking himself some of life's tough questions like "What is money." Ham is to the rescue with the answer of what a quarter is and how money is used. Forky is amazed.
