I'm not sure how to select rio as my window manager on Linux. Is that even recommended?

From the terminal, I get: it looks like there's already a window manager running; rio not started.

this is what I have to allow a 'rio' option at login. note that i'm
using a different terminal to the 9term, normally used with rio:

$ cat /usr/share/xsessions/rio.desktop
[Desktop Entry]
Name=rio
Comment=Rio Window Manager
Exec=/home/aam/plan9/bin/rio -term xfce4-terminal
Icon=
Type=Application
