Those who trust in the Lord will renew their strength; they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31

The Word to Live By: Some translations use the word 'wait' in place of 'trust 'to Live By: Some translations use the word 'wait' in place of 'trust'. The word, wait, is probably a better picture of what Isaiah is saying, as in a restaurant, and someone waits on you or serves you, but it boils down to trusting God. The word means more than a passive pause; it implies active anticipation, trust in God’s timing, and often, a period of spiritual preparation. It’s not about idleness, but rather a state of hopeful expectation while remaining obedient to God’s will. So how do we “trust/wait” on the Lord? It’s in the definition. Don’t be idle, but have an attitude of hopeful expectation based on the promises of God while remaining obedient to the known will of God. Let me break it down even farther. Do something good, nice, or productive for someone. Get involved in one of the outreach programs at your local church (another good reason to attend church, not just watch it). If your local church doesn’t have any outreach programs, then find one that does. Proverbs 13:9 says, “The light of the righteous shines brightly, but the lamp of the wicked is put out.” Let your light shine so brightly that wicked people see your good works and it puts out their light. While you are doing that, the Spirit of God is renewing your spiritual, soulish, and physical strength.
