Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives to all generously and without criticizing, and it will be given him. James 1:5

The Word to Live By: We’re still examining the promises of God. One thing I’ve noticed about the promises of God is that they all come with a condition or conditions. The one condition they all share is that you must believe them. This is one of the ones that begins with believing it and then morphs into acting on it. Verses 6,7 say, “But let him ask in faith without doubting. For the doubter is like the surging sea, driven and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.”  This is what I have found out about asking for wisdom. It doesn’t always show up the way you are expecting. My wife and I were driving home from the southwest part of Omaha the other day and had an idea of how we should go, but not exactly. When we plugged the address into our GPS, it took us a completely different way than we were expecting. Even though we doubted the instructions of the GPS in our minds because we were sure we knew better, we followed them anyway. It turned out they were right, and the way we wanted to go would have gotten us there, but it would have taken longer and into much more traffic. The moral of the story is when God gives you instructions (wisdom), follow them even if you think you know a better way. It will always pay big dividends in the future.
