Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. Matthew 4:4
The Word to live by: Here’s an oldie but a goodie. Just as your physical body must have food on a regular basis to remain strong, your spirit man must have daily doses of God’s Word to be strengthened. I’m not a nutritionist but I know a little and I know that physical food is not just for your body to be able to pick up heavy things and carry them around, but it also helps your mind to function. If you want to see me an emotional mess, put me under stress without good food. Sooner than later, I will fall apart. The Word of God is also nourishment to your soul (your mind, will, and emotions). Your soul needs the nutrition from the Word of God to keep your emotions on an even par, especially when you come into a stressful time. Just early this morning, I awoke with more things on my mind than I could possibly get done in the allotted time. After a few minutes of this, I began to say silently to myself the 23rd Psalm and shortly thereafter, I was thanking God for restoring my soul and for His goodness and mercy that follow me everywhere I go today. It was like that Snickers bar commercial where the guy is some crazy maniac before he eats the Snickers then afterwards turns into a normal person again. Unlike a Snickers bar, the Word of God is not a quick fix that will go away in an hour. The Word of God will make you supernaturally normal. J Some people fast their spirits and overload their bodies with non-nourishing food. It should be the other way around; you should overeat, stuff yourself, and be a glutton for the Word of God. If you will overdose on the Word of God, you will be surprised at how quickly you will overcome some bad habits. And the words of your mouth and the meditation of your heart will be acceptable in God’s sight.
