Give us this day our daily bread. Matthew 6:11

The Word To Live By: “Bread” here symbolizes not only our physical needs but our spiritual and soulish needs as well. Paul sums up our physical needs best in Philippians 4:13 and 19 when he says, “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength… My God shall supply all of your needs according to His riches in Christ Jesus.” Think of Jesus as a treasure chest full of everything you need for not only this life, but for eternal life after the death of your body. All you have to do is open it and take what you need. Ephesians 1:3 says that Christ has blessed us with every spiritual blessing that is in Christ Jesus. He’s not going to; He has done it. He chose us in Him before the foundations of the world. He’s not going to choose us; He chose us already. All that’s left is you choosing to take what He has provided through faith in His promise. We’ve already gone through all that is involved in that in our study of Mark 11:22-25. 2 Corinthains 5:17 tells us that if we are in Christ, we are new creations, not going to be; we are. If you have made Jesus the Lord of your life then you are a child of God, not going to be, and you are entitled to everything Christ sacrificed His life for you to have. You don’t have to earn it because it’s by grace that you are saved, not of any works or non-works of God you have done or are doing.  The word “saved” in the Bible means redeemed from a life of the curse of the law to a life that God knows. It means delivered, protected, healed, preserved, and whole - spirit, soul, and body. 2 Peter 1:4 says, He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in this world by lust.”  Not He is going to grant us, He has granted them to us today for use today. So, as children of God and New Testament believers, we don’t ask Him to give us this day our daily bread; we thank Him by saying, “Thank you, Lord, for giving me this day my daily bread.”
