Now when Daniel knew that the document was signed, he entered his house (now in his roof chamber he had windows open toward Jerusalem); and he continued kneeling on his knees three times a day, praying and giving thanks before his God, as he had been doing previously. Daniel 6:10

The Word to live by: This is the incident in Daniel’s life that led to him being thrown into the lion’s den and Darius the king (the government) making a proclamation that “Men are to fear and tremble before the God of Daniel.” But what I want you to see is that prayer proceeded the proclamation, but a non-compromising act is what opened the door for the king to make that decision. Many times, what prayer does is create opportunities to stand on the Word. It becomes our job to seize those opportunities. There are two things that are vital to answered prayer here. First of all, prayer was a habit for Daniel. He didn’t find out about the law that said not to pray and decided he needed to pray about it. The life question before Daniel was, “Are you going to quit doing what you have been doing because it’s suddenly against the law?” That question had been settled with Daniel a long time before this ever came up. Next is Daniel was, “Giving thanks.” A better way of saying this would have been, “Daniel was telling God how grateful he was for all the good things in his life.” Remember, Daniel was kind of a big deal in Jerusalem before he was kidnapped as a teenager and drug off to Babylon by one of the most ungodly men that ever lived. He was constantly being attacked for his religion. My point is Daniel had plenty to grumble and complain about but he was thankful and grateful for what he had and he expressed that to God three times a day. I’m sure this is one of the scriptures that Paul used in developing a doctrine of answered prayer in his letter to the Philippians in 4:6, “Be anxious for nothing but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” There is another thing I want to bring up about this prayer and answered prayer, but I’ll have to do that tomorrow as I’m out of time and room for today.
