You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies. John 6:44
The Word To Live By: The devil is a liar. When you perpetuate as truth the lies of the devil, you are a child of the devil. The Bible teaches us that we have three enemies of our spirit - our bodies, the world, and the devil. The Word of God teaches us how to overcome each of these enemies - our body with the fruit of the Spirit (see Galatians 5:22,23), the world with our faith (see 1 John 5:4, 5), and the devil with the armor of God (see Ephesians 6:10-16). The first place the devil attacks is your thought life. If a thought doesn’t line up with the Word of God, it is a lie of the devil. You say you don’t know the Word well enough to distinguish if the thought is from the devil, your desire, or the wisdom of God. Neither do I, but I do know John 10:10 and 2 Timothy 1:7. “The thief comes but to steal, kill, and destroy. I have come that you might have life and life more abundant.” “God has not given you a spirit of fear, but of power and love and a sound mind,” (some translations say power, love, and discipline). So, if what I am thinking doesn’t line up with either one of those scriptures, it’s not a thought I want to dwell on. 2 Corinthians 10:5 says, “We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ…” How do you destroy a lie from the devil? By speaking the truth of God. Proverbs 22:17-2, “Incline your ear and hear the words of the wise and apply your mind to my knowledge; for it will be pleasant if you keep them within you, that they may be ready on your lips. So that your trust may be in the Lord, I have taught you today, even you. Have I not written to you excellent things of counsels and knowledge, to make you know the certainty of the words of truth that you may correctly answer him who sent you?” Don’t fall for the lies of the devil. Know the truth and by knowing the truth and speaking it, it will set you free from the lies of the devil.
