Therefore, since the promise that we can enter into rest is still open, let’s be careful so that none of you will appear to miss it. We also had the good news preached to us, just as the Israelites did. However, the message they heard didn’t help them because they weren’t united in faith with the ones who listened to it. We who have faith are entering the rest. Hebrews 4:1-3
The Word To Live By: Following our rule of Bible study, when you see the word therefore look and see what it’s there for, we see in Hebrews 3:19, “We see that they couldn’t enter because of their lack of faith.” This verse says that they didn’t enter rest because they didn’t unite the promises of God with faith. It’s not enough to simply read the Word of God, you need to do it. The last three days have been wonderful, made me happy and completely stress free and feeling refreshed. God has put me in front of some dear old friends with conversations about the goodness of God in their lives. I noticed in every one of the encounters I had an opportunity to argue with someone else. (They are fools: a fool in the Bible has within it the meaning of a rebel, especially against God and the laws of order, decency, and justice.) In every one of these situations, I simply kept my mouth shut and walked away. Why did you do that? Because the Bible says not to argue with fools, and I trust God’s word more than my emotional inclinations. One of those encounters was with a person who, I’m convinced, is simply jealous of my good health. They are a couple years younger than me and think I’m faking being healthy because I don’t walk like an old man. (I told you they were fools.) Not only do I not walk like an old man, but I also don’t talk like an old man, think like an old man, and I thank God everyday for my good health. They are convinced that getting old means you get sick and tired and feeble, and they are quick to tell you about it. God said in 3 John 2 that He wished above all things that I prosper and be in health spirit, soul, and body. If that’s what God wants for my life, then I’m going to accept it by faith and thank Him for it. In Hebrews 4:6 it says that they also didn’t enter rest because of disobedience to the promises. How do you disobey a promise? Deny it. I’m not saying I’m going to live in this body forever, but that doesn’t mean I have to leave it sick. Genesis 35:29 says, “Isaac took his last breath and died. He was buried with his ancestors after a long, satisfying life. His sons Esau and Jacob buried him.” Psalm 91:16 says, “I will satisfy him with a long life, and show him My salvation.” I have some long-range goals (21 years out) and some short-range goals. (two years out) and unless Jesus returns, I intend to complete them. Please forgive the rant but I just want people to see that living by faith can be accomplished with the right attitude.
