But Moses said to the people, “Don’t be afraid. Stand firm and see the Lord’s salvation, He will provide for you today; for the Egyptians you see today, you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you must be quiet. “Exodus 14:13,14
The Word To Live By: I love verse 14, “You must be quiet.” Read the rant from the Israelites to Moses in verses 11-12. They absolutely freaked out. They had just left Egypt and were heading for the Promised Land, eleven days away, but they had taken the long route and ended up at the Red Sea with no apparent way out. Now consider this from their perspective on all that is happening. Day one: “Yee Haw! We’re free from slavery and on our way to a land flowing with milk and honey.” Day two: “Uhh, Moses? You sure this is the right way? I think there’s an ocean in front of us.” Day three: “MOSES! We’re trapped, and we can’t turn around because you see that cloud of dust? That’s the entire Egyptian army!” (You can read the rest in verses 11-12.) God knew exactly what He was doing. First of all, it was the shortest route, and second of all, God knew if they went around the Red Sea, they would have to fight the armies of the land they were crossing, and they were slaves without weapons or experience in fighting. What God was saying through Moses to the Israelites was, “Quit your whining and speaking foolish things. I know what I’m doing.” I’m seeing a theme in a lot of these promises I’ve been writing about, and that is, “Stand firm, and let the Spirit of God do His work.” Standing firm doesn’t mean doing nothing. It means, stand firm in your faith in the Word of God. Ephesians 6:10,11, 13--17, “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. (Stand firm believing in the power of God’s Word.) Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. Stand firm therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.” That’s how you stand firm. Be quiet with the whining and complaining and fear.
