And for this reason, we also constantly thank God that when you received from us the word of God’s message, you accepted it not as the word of men, but for what it really is, the word of God, which also performs its work in you who believe. 1 Thessalonians 2:13
The Word to live by: This is an important message to understand. To begin with, we see that Paul was constantly thanking God that the Thessalonians received the word of God’s message and accepted it. This is a prayer of faith. Paul, by his own admission, didn’t know what was going on at this church - what they believed and what they didn’t believe (verse 17). He knew that they were facing sufferings for their faith in Jesus and His resurrection. A prayer of faith thanks God for what the Word promises you that you can’t see. Next, we see that they had to receive the message - in other words, believe it in their hearts, and put it into action in their lives. They believed it was from God. That’s important because you are showing honor and respect to the person you believe, and (this is my favorite part) the Word of God performs its work in you when you believe it. What is its work? It gives you wisdom to make the right choices. It gives you peace in the most chaotic circumstances and heals your body, to name just three. The Word of God makes the impossible possible in your life.
