So he arose and went to Zarephath, and when he came to the gate of the city, behold, a widow was there gathering sticks; and he called to her and said, “Please get me a little water in a jar, that I may drink.” 1 Kings 17:10
The Word to live by: We are talking about little things that seem insignificant or unimportant at the time, leading to big blessings from God. I have two quick points here. Elijah was led to someone whom the world thought was of little significance. Always remember that your Savior was born in a stable because there was no room for him at the inn to a couple that simply believed the Word of God. Do you think that if Mary and Joseph showed up at a full hotel tonight and said who they were, they could find them a room, not in the barn? God promotes obedience to His Word. And when God promotes you, you stay promoted. Remember the scripture in Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.” Does that sound like anyone is insignificant to God? Treat everyone you meet like they are important to God, because they are. Point number two is, know that you are significant and important to the plan of God for someone’s life (it’s not always about you), so don’t be afraid to obey God when He tells you to minister to someone. I’m not necessarily talking about preaching to them; I’m talking about helping them in a time of need. The widow didn’t think she could be of any use to a prophet of God because she only had a little, but God took that little and sustained not only her and her son, but the prophet as well. If you read verse 16 in 1 Kings 17, you will see something interesting there that God did. Notice, He didn’t multiply the oil and the flour; it just never ran out. Don’t look at a little as not enough for the next time; look at it like it’s never going to run out. “Not much” with God is still enough.
