For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me. Jeremiah 29:11-13
The Word To Live By: This is the scripture that my Bible app on my computer opened up to this morning. If it’s not, it should be on every refrigerator and bathroom mirror in your house as a reminder of who God really is. (God is a good God and good means good.) It’s God’s will for every human born on the planet (see 1 Timothy 2:4). I realize it’s the will that the devil and every wicked spirit in the heavenlies tries to disprove, but it’s God’s will for you, nevertheless. It’s a pretty common scripture but sometimes it gets overlooked because of the tribulations in life. Colossians 3:2 says to, “Set your mind on things above and not on the things of the earth.” This scripture is a really good thing to set your mind on. There’s a story my mother told me about a boy who was walking by a dam and noticed a trickle of water coming out of a hole in the middle of it. He went screaming into the town below, “There’s a hole in the dam! There’s a hole in the dam!” The town’s people all started to run around shouting, “There’s a catastrophe coming! There’s a catastrophe coming!” Some people were filling sandbags and putting them around their houses. Some people were trying to leave town, and the roads were blocked and nobody could get anywhere. People began to rob and kill their neighbors and committing unspeakable acts of immorality that went against the will of God that’s written in the Bible. Another little boy came along and saw the same hole and stuck his finger in it and stopped the water from running through it. As he stood there trying to think what to do next, he prayed for a solution and when he opened his eyes, he saw a rock on the ground and stuck it in the hole. Then he made cement out of the wet sand and mud that was around the bottom of the dam and secured the rock and fixed the hole. “What’s that got to do with Jeremiah 29?” I’m glad you asked! If your mind is set on the will of God, when you see a potential disaster, pray and God will answer you with the solution. His will for you is for a good life, not for disaster to teach you something or to punish you for something. When your mind is set on that, He listens to you. And 1 John 5:15 tells us all we need to know about that. “And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him.” Good news! God has a good plan for your future. Tap into it with faith in His Word, not the doubt and unbelief in your mind.
