Know well the condition of your flocks, and give attention to your herds; for riches do not last forever; and does a crown endure to all generations? When the grass is gone, and the new growth appears, and the herbage of the mountains is gathered, the lambs will provide your clothing, and the goats the price of a field; there will be enough goats’ milk for your food, for the food of your household and maintenance for your maidens. Proverbs 27:23-27
The Word To Live By: Take care of the littlest details in your life so when hard times hit, you’ll tackle them like a 250-pound linebacker tackling a 200-pound receiver. What does that have to do with this verse in Proverbs? I was watching an NFL game yesterday and I saw that very thing happen. That play stopped a drive that would have won the game for the receiving team. I was a 200-pound receiver at one point in my life who went up against a 250-pound linebacker in practice almost every day and could very much relate to the receiver and how he felt. When I saw it in the game, it brought back the memory of it and I remembered thinking back and how I thought it wasn’t fair because the linebacker knew the play and he could really T- off on me. I was watching an interview after the game and the reporter brought up that play to the coach. The coach said of the linebacker, “He knew that play was coming because he was a player who watched a lot of extra film and picked up on details that nobody else did. When you pay attention to the little details in the overall plan, you will be prepared to stop the devil from stealing the things you will need later in your life. Most of you probably don’t relate to this scripture the way I did, but I’m talking about a disciplined lifestyle and a life of integrity that takes care of the little things daily in your life.
