His mother said to the servants, ‘Whatever He says to you, do it.” John 2:5
The Word To Live By: I want to talk to you about the structure of receiving the blessing of God in your life, even if it takes a miracle. To begin with, look who she’s talking to. Servants. Even if you are called a child of God, you should still be willing to be a servant of your Father in heaven and do what He asks. Next, even though Jesus doesn’t think it’s His time to start the ministry God gave Him, at 30, He is still obeying and honoring His mother. In case you didn’t know, that’s the first commandment with a promise (Ephesians 6:1,2). I did some checking and a gallon of water weighs a little over 8 lbs. To fill the pots, they were probably using a two-gallon container lowered down into a hand-dug well from 30 to 50 feet deep and pulled back up. That would be 34 trips to fill one pot. That’s 204 trips up and down to fill the six pots. That would make the pots weigh a little over 200 pounds a piece. They would have gained a little weight after the water turned to wine, plus the weight of the pots so it’s safe to say those pots weighed at least 225 pounds a piece. I don’t know if you have picked up 225 pounds lately but it’s hard to do. Even if the pots had two handles on the sides so two men could lift it, it’s HARD, really hard. My point is obeying the Word of God is not always easy or makes sense, but if you will trust Him you are putting yourself in position to receive a blessing and even a bonified miracle. Even though the water turning to wine was instant, the work and prep leading up to it took time and effort. Proverbs 20:4, 18, “The sluggard does not plow after the autumn, so he begs during the harvest and has nothing. Prepare plans by consultation and make war by wise guidance.” Make room for the blessing of God by preparing for it.
