And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who have trespassed against us. Matthew 6:13
The Word To Live By: This is quick and easy. We’ve already seen in Mark 11:25 the importance of forgiveness in our lives. Forgiveness of others is the lynchpin to the degree of prayer being answered. When you became a child of God, you believed in your heart that God raised Him from the dead and made Him the Lord of your life. You came to that knowledge by understanding that no matter how good you had been in your life, or at least better than the people you hung around with, you were still a sinner in need of His forgiveness. So that happened. I believe this scripture is talking about the mistakes and things we deliberately did contrary to the known will of God in our lives (treating others the way we want to be treated, loving our neighbor as ourselves), and things that happened yesterday, or already today, and offenses that happened to us recently and of course the biggies in the past. 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” That scripture should be on the lips of every child of God everywhere, and the second you realize you are in that category, do it. Think of it as coming in from working outside and washing your hands before eating. That keeps the bad germs from getting inside of you and causing all kinds of problems. So that being said, you pray that scripture, “Thank you for forgiving me my trespasses as I have forgiven those who trespassed against me.”
