Hi--I am synching Scrivener on my Mac to PlainText on my iPad. This used to work, but I stopped using it for a month or so, and now it no longer does.

Scrivener is set to synch to a folder called "PlainText" in my Dropbox. It syncs fine. When I check Dropbox from my Mac, all files are there. When I check Dropbox on my iPad, all files are there.

But when I open PlainText, only the project folders are there, with no documents in them. Also, if I create a document while in PlainText, it syncs just fine to Dropbox, and then syncs fine to Scrivener. But when I reopen Plaintext, the document has vanished.

Help.

Do you have a search active? At the bottom of the list of documents there's a small magnifying glass icon. If the glass has a dot in the middle, that means PlainText has an active search going, and that will hide any files that don't match the search terms (at the top of the screen next to another magnifying glass icon). If you're able to create and sync documents, but they don't appear in PlainText's list despite definitely being in the correct folder, then that might be the issue.

One other thought: Are all the file extensions *.txt or *.rtf? PlainText only works with plain text (*.txt) files, so if Scrivener updated all the files to rich text (*.rtf) then that might why they aren't showing in PlainText despite the correct folders being there.

No, I do not have a search active (just double-checked).

aha. That was it, thanks so much. I think I'll just snag one the apps that can handle rtf -- might be easier. Thanks anyway, and I appreciate all your help.

Ms. Catmull:

I would be very interested if you found one or more iOS apps that could handle .RTF files and do Dropbox syncing. Please share with the group if you do!

There are none that I found in Brett Terpstra's amazing list of iOS text editors:

Good luck!

Best wishes,
Clint
