Hello! Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Jonathan and I am the new owner of PlainText.

Going forward I will be here to support any issues you have with PlainText. I have big plans for the app and look forward to your feedback. While I get PlainText development up to speed I ask for your patience with any bugs there may be. As a show of good faith I have made all in-app-purchases free for a limited time. And going forward, the only feature that will require an in-app-purchase will be the removal of ads. The passcode, word count, and extended keyboard will be included with the app.

Due to a limitation with the App Store, it was necessary to re-release the app as a new version which can be found here, PlainText 2. The old version of PlainText will no longer be supported by Hog Bay software and will be removed from the App Store soon.

Jonathon,

Congrads for being the new owner. Hope you make it even better.

With that said, here's my quick feedback:
- Please don't use Windows fonts, at least change the default Courier New to Courier. Too thin.
- No font settings? Helvetica will do. And what's with the line-height/leading being more spacious than before. Please set it back to normal
- Please disable the sync pop up dialog. I don't sync to any cloud. Just backup to desktop.

Congratulations on the acquisition. I've been a long-time user of PlainText.

First of all - HELP - the PlainText 1 update in the AppStore that announces PlainText 2 prevents access to PlainText 1. I still have some notes in PlainText 1 that I now can not access to back up. Can this be solved?

Second, I agree with the previous poster on the fonts. Could it just go back to the way it was?

Thanks

Good luck with the acquisition; Plaintext has been a great product.

I can't find the "remove ads" function?

I agree that the ability to change fonts would be great - current courier is not so good.

Worst ever update of PlainText 1!
Now I can't access my notes anymore due to a pesky pop-up.

And now we cannot access any of our old notes/files. This is the worst possible way you could launch a new app like this. No warning. No forethought about what would happen to existing users.

Please, someone tell me how I can access my old stuff so that I can find another note editor that isn't so clueless about the needs of users.

I also have many things stored on the old plain text that I cannot get too. Can this be solved and if so can it be soon. I do not understand why it will not let us retrieve out old documents on there. Please fix the problem soon.

Congratulations on taking over however I cannot access any of my notes which are over 40+ thank god I synced them to my iCloud yet I cannot access them either way. Can you please make it accessible for users to retrieve old notes from the previous app. With no notice it is unfair for users who have been using this to see there is no possible way to access work and transfer them safely. Please fix this as soon as you can.

Hiya. Congrats & good luck. Thx for the unlock.

My 2cents:
I agree the font needs to be changed. Much to thin to be comfortable reading.
Plz change the icon to PlainText 2, or similar. For a while I was very confused after I dl'd the new one.

To those needing to migrate their files: I've used DiskAid for a while now to transfer files to and from my PC, and did the same for PlainText 2. I just dragged and dropped the whole documents folder to the new program. It was simpler than using the iTunes store (esp after the latest update), and I'm pretty tech-illiterate. I believe the program is free?

PlainText is the best iPhone editor I've found, and I've tried a bunch of them. However, I miss the old PlainText's bolder font. My vision isn't so good, and Courier is too light and hard to read. Can you either revert to the old font or make an option to select from among several fonts? Arial or Helvetica would be fine. Thanks.

Customizable fonts will be added in future updates. In the meantime, you can try increasing the system font size by going to Settings.app > General > Text Size and increasing the font size.

Please visit this thread, https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/plaintext/1JU8iLyRF-Q, for solutions on how to access your documents in the old PlainText.

It's not the font size that's a problem. It's the weight (thickness of the letters). I look forward to getting customizable fonts.

Hi Jonathan,

Plain Text was great and I hope you will make it even better. Here are my suggestions:

1. customizable fonts. (aspecially Avenir)
2. ability to see whole text when menu is visible (this was available in iOS 6 version and gone with iOS 7.)
3. fulscreen when writing with external keyboard. (it becomes much more neat and I strongly vote for this)

thank you.

Hello Jonathan.
I'm very happy with latest update to Plaintext. I would though like to vote for the return of automatically naming a document when you create it, as was the case in earlier versions.

I do agree with having more fonts. I have autism and dyspraxia. It's hard to process thin fonts. I don't have any way of transferring from the old plain text because I don't use iCloud or drop box. I use Plain Text to organize the plots and characters of my stories. It keeps things neat and organized so I don't have a bunch of things in different places.

Hello Jonathan,

Congratulations and good luck with your new software.

I swapped over to PlainText 2 and have some issues.

  •  In particular - I did the in-app upgrade, which as far as I can tell charged me money, and the adds are still visible.  So thats dissapointing to say the least. Please check that various country app stores all behave the same. I'm not an apple developer, but wouldn't be surprised that this was the cause.
  • I use PlainText every day - because it is PLAIN. I don't want fonts or styling, just Plain Text which can be read anywhere, is extremely compact, and has no formatting errors possible.
  • I would review the directory created thin on Dropbox - its very confusing, and if you connect on an iphone and an ipad, it says its creating directories twice. Suggesting syncing all of dropbox to my iphone is very scary - make the wording plain and clear.
Cheers,
--Peter Goodall
