...what i feel is that bifurcating EI and EC will not be of much
use, rather we will lessen our opportunists towards more soft
companies, i.e. owing to the name of Instrumentation we are already
well into energy and power sector as that is evident by placement
track record so far. At the same time it is seen that soft(not
software) companies like sasken, amdocs nd airtel sidelinig EI branch,
I hope nobody would like to see that number increase next time.If we
market ourselves deliberately as more Instrumentation,we make an end
to this road, instead of making any effort to include EI in those
companies as this will give such companies an easy choice towards EC &
CS . As per as energy and power sector and general companies are
concerned, luckily that number is quite healthy for EI students and
hence going by history we should not worry for that part and effort
should be made towards what would possibly improve the our weaker
side.
If someone is convinced that making Instrumentation more visible
will give us same advantage as ME and EE people enjoy(It has been seen
many companies going only for ME & EE ),then it should be given an
equal thought.
The point here is do we strengthen our stronger side or strengthen our
weaker side................

Well, I completely agree with Sarmaji on this one. We should not forget the electronics part of our branch and should resist from giving over-attention to the instrumentation part(which is not to say that we abandon it). What I am trying is to say that, we should channelize our efforts in bringing more semiconductor-based and electronics based companies in general. Lets not get too carried away with the short term prospects . Don't you think that the previous batches have got placed in to categories of companies ,ie, one which brackets instrumentation and the other communication. We seriously lack in focusing on core electronics companies which i think should have been more sought after. What I suggest is that, don't separate both branches ,rather keep them together while highlighting the differentiating syllabi of these two streams . Also, Ashish try to highlight the open electives in this brochures as this is a new addition to the curriculum and many companies like this concept. We should even focus on communication based companies because both branches have read courses like EMT which is traditionally not an instrumentation subject and is generally taught to communication guys. Going by previous trends ,its safe to say that almost all of us will be placed in various instrumentation based industrial organizations. So, lets make our honest efforts in securing more challenging and better jobs in core electronics and communication based companies.
Cheers
