Position - AI Engineer – Azure AI Foundry

Location: New Jersey (Hybrid – 3 days onsite per week)
Employment Type: Contract

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced AI Engineer to design, develop, and deploy enterprise-grade generative AI solutions using the Microsoft Azure ecosystem. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Azure AI Foundry, Azure OpenAI Service, large language models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and agentic AI frameworks.

In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to build intelligent applications, AI copilots, and autonomous workflows that drive business value while ensuring scalability, security, and responsible AI practices.

Please note: This is a hybrid role requiring onsite presence in New Jersey three days per week. Candidates currently based in New Jersey will receive preference. Candidates outside New Jersey must be willing to relocate before joining.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement generative AI solutions using Azure AI Foundry (formerly Azure AI Studio).
  • Build and optimize RAG pipelines, AI copilots, and autonomous or semi-autonomous AI agents.
  • Develop and orchestrate applications using large language models (LLMs), including GPT, Llama, and similar foundation models.
  • Integrate AI solutions with enterprise applications, APIs, data platforms, and Microsoft Copilot Studio.
  • Implement prompt engineering strategies to improve model performance, reliability, and user experience.
  • Design and manage vector search architectures and integrate vector databases for semantic retrieval.
  • Develop scalable AI services and reusable components using Python, microservices, and cloud-native design patterns.
  • Establish AI evaluation frameworks using tools such as RAGAS and TruLens to measure grounding accuracy, reduce hallucinations, and improve explainability.
  • Build and maintain MLOps workflows, including model deployment, monitoring, versioning, observability, and CI/CD automation.
  • Ensure adherence to Responsible AI principles, security standards, privacy requirements, and Model Context Protocol (MCP) guidelines.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, software engineers, product owners, and business stakeholders to deliver enterprise AI solutions.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
  • 8–10 years of experience in software engineering, machine learning, data engineering, or AI development.
  • Strong programming experience with Python.
  • Hands-on experience building and deploying Generative AI and LLM-based applications in production environments.
  • Expertise with Azure AI Foundry, Azure OpenAI Service, Azure Machine Learning, and Microsoft Fabric.
  • Experience implementing RAG architectures, prompt engineering, and vector search solutions.
  • Proficiency with AI frameworks such as LangChain, Semantic Kernel, and crewAI.
  • Strong understanding of machine learning concepts, deep learning, statistics, feature engineering, and data modeling.
  • Experience with machine learning frameworks including PyTorch, TensorFlow, and Scikit-learn.
  • Hands-on experience with MLflow, Docker, CI/CD pipelines, APIs, and microservices.
  • Experience working with relational databases, including MySQL.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with vector databases such as Pinecone, Weaviate, Chroma, FAISS, or Azure AI Search.
  • Knowledge of additional cloud AI platforms, including Amazon SageMaker and Google Vertex AI.
  • Experience implementing observability and monitoring for AI applications.
  • Familiarity with enterprise security, governance, and compliance requirements for AI systems.

Preferred Certifications

Candidates with the following certifications will be given preference:

  • Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Engineer Associate (AI-102)
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Apps and Agents Developer Associate
